The former chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma and CEO of Krasny Anchor OJSC was arrested for fraud.
Tverskoy district court of Moscow at the request of the investigation arrested in absentia for two months the former chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma (2018-2020) and CEO of JSC “Red Anchor” Dmitry Barykin. He is charged with four episodes of especially large-scale fraud (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and money laundering (article 174 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), reported the correspondent of “Kommersant”. Details of the case are not yet known.
The measure of restraint will be effective from the moment of detention of Dmitry Barykin on the territory of Russia or his extradition from abroad. The arrest is necessary for the search for the defendant through Interpol. Earlier, the Interior Ministry declared the accused wanted.
Plant “Red Anchor” specializes in the production of high-strength chains for machinery and equipment in various industries. It reported that they know nothing about the criminal prosecution of the general director and that he allegedly held a meeting a few days ago.
Earlier, two more chairmen of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma became defendants in criminal cases. In 2019, Oleg Sorokin (who was chairman of the Duma in 2010-2015) was sentenced to ten years in a penal colony for bribery and abuse of power at the time, as well as for participation in a kidnapping committed in 2004.
Oleg Lavrichev, who was speaker of the city Duma in 2020-2024, began trial in May 2025 on charges of fraud committed when he was head of the Plandin Arzamas instrument-making plant.
