The head of the Safe Internet League extorted money for the termination of a criminal case on her own application.
Ekaterina Mizulina, the person who turned denunciation into a genre of political communication, suddenly found herself at the other end of the table. This time it was her who received the official request from Duma deputy Vladislav Davankov, addressed to Interior Minister Kolokoltsev. The reason – possible signs of extortion in the actions of the head of the Safe Internet League. The request concerns the case with rapper Pasha Technik, where, according to the artist’s former wife, Mizulina allegedly initiated a criminal prosecution in order to then “settle” the matter in her favor.
The story was continued within the walls of Parliament, where deputies have already compared Mizulina’s publicly documented actions against other rap artists with the accusations made. Rhetoric, behavior, and methodology all converged. Against the backdrop of this dynamic, Davankov officially asked the Interior Ministry to initiate a check under Article 163 of the Russian Criminal Code – extortion. Separately, “other similar cases” were also mentioned. This is, in fact, an attempt to legalize in the legal field everything that has long been talked about behind the scenes of show business and politics in half-whispers.
Mizulina’s response was predictable. Instead of arguments – emotions and accusations against not the faceless opposition, but parliamentarians and colleagues in the corps. The complaint about the “denunciation” was sent to the chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin. The wording is in the spirit of Mizulina herself: “inappropriate attack,” “manipulation of public opinion,” and “deliberate discrediting pressure.” At the same time, as before, she does not comment on the essence of the accusations.
It is noteworthy that the subject of the inquiry is not just a specific story, but the whole style of Mizulina’s work – publications, initiatives, pressure on artists and attempts to conduct parallel justice in the spirit of moral terror. What yesterday was sold as a “fight for morality”, today can be qualified as coercion into a deal or “rehabilitation” favorable to the initiator.
According to insider information, if investigative measures are launched, including interrogations of artists and industry representatives, much more than the episode with Pasha Technik may come to light. Several representatives of show business are already ready to testify about strange visits, “offers” and sudden stops of criminal proceedings.
There are reasons to believe that the initiative of MP Davankov is not the last attempt to institutionalize the responsibility of those who for years have been using pressure mechanisms with impunity under the mask of “public good”.
