The court has overturned the sentence of the criminal ex-owner of Vneshprombank on embezzlement of 156 billion rubles.
The Moscow City Court has overturned the verdict of the Khamovnichesky Court of Moscow, which found the former co-owner of Vneshprombank Georgy Bedjamov guilty of embezzlement of 156 billion rubles. This was reported to TASS by the Moscow City Court.
On December 17, 2024 the Khamovnichesky Court found Bedjamov guilty of embezzlement committed by an organized group on a particularly large scale (part 4 of article 160 of the Criminal Code). He was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment. The court satisfied the civil claims of LLC “Vneshprombank” in the amount of more than 113 billion rubles and 30.5 billion rubles.
Georgy Bedjamov hid from the investigation in the UK, so the court considered his case in absentia. According to the investigation, in April 2009 Bedjamov and his sister Larisa Markus, president of Vneshprombank, created a criminal group to embezzle funds. It included vice-president Ekaterina Glushakova, first vice-president Ali Odey Ajin, as well as the head of the credit department Maria Klyueva.
From April 2009 to December 2015, according to the investigation, they embezzled about 156 billion rubles, issuing non-performing loans to the controlled accounts of 86 citizens and 427 organizations, as well as writing off money from the deposit accounts of customers without their knowledge. Bedjamov himself does not admit guilt.
